Nokia 6650 T-Mobile

The Nokia 6650 is one of the latest S60 devices. The clamshell was announced at the CeBIT 2008 and is available exclusively for T-Mobile custumors. It offers GPS, HSPDA, a 2.2” screen, 2-Megapixel camera and Bluetooth. More over, it runs on S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 which is more welcome for totally new S60 users. The external display, but not the 2.2” internal, has a touch function so that you can control some functions like the camera and the music player using your fingers. Here you can find a bunch of live pictures.

AT&T and Nokia on Thursday brought the Nokia 6650 to market to compete against other devices launching in time for the holiday shopping season. The small folding device runs on the Symbian-based S60 platform, which lets users personalize their mobile experience with third-party application downloads, themes and profile settings.
The phone taps into AT&T’s 3G network and pushes AT&T’s mobile services, including video and mobile music. The 6650 will be available Nov. 14 in red and silver, and offers up to four hours of talk time.
Released for AT&T, the stainless-steel Nokia 6650 clamshell is integrated with high-speed HSDPA data connectivity for fast web browsing and downloading. Its 2.2-inch screen color can show up to 16.7 million colors. The 6650 has built-in AGPS (assisted GPS) for quick positioning with AT&T Navigator. It comes with a built-in 2.0-megapixel camera with flash and zoom, 30 MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot. An MP3 player and FM radio ensures users are always entertained. Photos and videos can be transfered via Bluetooth wireless technology or USB 2.0.

Nokia’s Open-Source Advantage
The Nokia 6650 gives consumers access to tens of thousands of applications from gaming to productivity. The S60 platform also has the most expansive set of developer languages available, thanks in part to its open-source nature.
The Nokia 6650 also offers all the multimedia and entertainment bells and whistles consumers expect from a smartphone, including a two-megapixel camera, 2.2-inch display, a dedicated key that allows customers to access AT&T Navigator with one click, AT&T video-sharing services, and AT&T Mobile Music.
“Nokia created this device for the thriving consumer appetite for navigation, multimedia and entertainment essentials in one stylish, affordable package,” said Ian Laing, vice president of sales at Nokia.
The Nokia 6650 doubles as a portable entertainment device with external audio-playback keys. The 6650 also offers a 1.36-inch display that allows customers to capture photos, control music and change profile settings without having to open the flip device.
Rising Above the Noise
“This is a nice device. The flip-phone form factor is very popular in the U.S. There are not a whole lot of smartphones in that form factor, particularly in that ultra-thin style,” said Michael Gartenberg, vice president of mobile strategy for Jupitermedia. “So I think it’s one of those devices that will resonate.”
It will have to resonate to rise above the noise of Apple’s iPhone, the T-Mobile G1, and the BlackBerry Storm. Indeed, consumers have plenty of choices this holiday shopping season. Handset vendors and carriers are hoping to see sales on Black Friday and beyond.
“Handset makers and carriers want these devices on the shelves before Black Friday, when consumers are going to be out looking for phones,” Gartenberg said. “We are seeing now the release of several phones with Black Friday availability. Then there’s the perennial iPhone that’s still at the forefront in the hearts and minds of consumers.”
The Nokia 6650 will sell with a two-year service agreement, giving it a price advantage over some of its smartphone competitors.
