Sony India has launched its new Walkman W series of mp3 players targeted at the younger generation.Sony’s new Walkman W series MP3 player has a wire-free design meant for audio fans who want a simple and headphone-only MP3 player to use on the go.

The ultra portable W series is compact and lightweight and fits comfortably behind the head, so users can get active without getting tangled. It is available in five colours; black, white, pink, violet and lime.

Masaru Tamagawa, managing director, Sony India said, “The new W202 is the latest in the line of Walkman MP3 players that has a stylish, cool and a hip image and that targets the youngsters. This is designed keeping in mind the needs of youth who want to listen to their favourite music on the go without the hassle of wires.”

W series is extremely light at 35g, compact, foldable, trendy and very portable for everyday use. For users who love listening to music while exercising and engaging in an active lifestyle, the W series allows users to free their hands while at the gym, cycling, rock climbing or even while participating in a triathlon.

The newly developed ZAPPIN navigation and Jog Dial increases convenience for users with its intuitive operation. With a press and hold of the jog dial, the ZAPPIN playback feature is activated, playing just the main chorus portion of each song in the music library. This lets users easily scan their playlists for their desired song by simply listening, without having to view a display screen to navigate through tracks. The Jog Dial allows users to easily play, stop or skip tracks with a touch of the dial.

Sony’s 13.5mm EX headphones have been utilised for this product and the ’Content Transfer’ software supplied with the W series Walkman allows users to easily transfer non-DRM music files from online music services, such as iTunes, to the Walkman by simply ’dragging and dropping’ files

Another advantage of the new Walkman is its long battery life. With a 1.5 hour charge, a user can enjoy up to 12 hours of music. On-the-go users will also benefit from the W series’ quick charge function which allows the device to playback up to 90 minutes of music with only 3 minutes of charging time.

The only disadvantage of this product is that you cannot go through your song list and select a song but with a press of a button you can ‘zap in’ to preview the chorus of the next track for 4 seconds and once you find your tune you zap out and you can hear your song from the beginning.

Internal storage is up to 2GB. The product is supplied with a USB cradle for charging.The mp3 player is priced at Rs4,990.
