Nokia is all set to launch its Nokia Music Store in India by the end of this year. The company has already soft launched the Music Store and right now it is in testing phases. Nokia wants to make sure that before they do a launch across India, the Store works without hiccups and they have good collection of songs in their database.

The Nokia Music Store can be used on a laptop as well as your Nokia phone to browse though the music catalog and also buy the music.The music download service will be initially available only against vouchers issued to customers at the time of buying handsets and other equipment from Nokia, the spokeswoman said.Allowing consumers to pay online to download music will require the site to have a payment mechanism. This will be possible only after Nokia’s joint venture with Indian partner, HCL Infosystems, starts handling the online payments, the spokeswoman said. By Indian rules, online retailing requires a company that has an Indian partner, she added.

Nokia said in January it was setting up a joint venture with HCL to offer mobile value-added services such as navigation, music and other entertainment to Indian consumers. A number of companies, including mobile phone service providers, are now offering online music downloads in India.

Nokia has signed up a number of top music labels in the country. On its beta site it currently features music from a number of labels including T-Series, Times Music, and Universal Music India. "The store will help promote legal music,"the spokeswoman said.Nokia will use Microsoft DRM technology on its online music store.

To start with Nokia Music Store not only has Hindi tracks from big international labels but it also features Indian music labels, regional songs and good amount of English songs. Nokia Music Store is still in beta phase as it is not possible to download or buy any content from the online store, for now it is only listen to 30 seconds clips for now and some privileged users with a PIN.

The Nokia Music PC software helps you organise and transfer music between your PC and a compatible device, but also discover, play and download music directly from Nokia Music Store.
