Nokia unveiled the Nokia N96 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February. The all new multimedia computer sports a large 2.8″ inch screen and built in digital TV tuner. With a massive 16GB of internal memory, it promises to be one of Nokia’s most powerful mobile phones to date.

The N96, Nokia’s new flagship handset, is the N95 improved a step or two technologically. I copied the complete specifications from the Nokia site and pasted it below. The surprise is the built-in 16GB memory. The iPhone may have taken the first shot Nokia is not far behind. The DVB-H and GPS photo tagging are awesome additions to what the N95 has got. If Nokia can maintain this incremental feature improvements, these Nseries phones will literally be our “computer in our pocket” in a very short time.

The handset has support for touchscreen and joystick navigation. Its integrated GPS displays maps of more than 100 countries. The device also has support for EDGE, Bluetooth and HSDPA connectivity.The Nokia N96 sports a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, flash and video light. Nokia has also included an improved GPS functionality, with better clearer Nokia Maps, The music features of the Nokia N96 have also been improved, with a 3.5mm headphone jack included as standard. With 16GB of internal memory, there is plenty of space for all your music tracks.

The Nokia N96 slider phone has an unique design. It has two keypads that open up on opposite sides of the handset. The device can be slide opened either in upward or downward direction. One can gain access to its QWERTY keyboard by slide opening the handset in upward direction. When one moves its display downwards, it reveals another keypad that features a set of multimedia controls. One can also gain access to its navigation and shortcut keys even when the device lies in its slide closed position.

The Nokia N96 is the first mobile phone to carry a built in digital TV tuner which will come complete with an automatically updating program guide. It is unknown at present if this service will be available . The Nokia N96 also supports a wide range of video formats including MPEG-4, Windows Media Video and Flash Video, perfect for viewing online video content.

Nokia N96 concept smart phones have their own pros and cons. It finally depends upon the user which handset he or she wants to own.
